Well, External ECM System (Enterprise Content Management System) is integrated with BPM in order to store the document types for a particular process instance.
Let we discuss more about the process, why we want to store or attach documents in to this. for example if we want to claim accidental insurance for a car, we should submit the documents like police complaint report, insurance claim form, pictures of the accidental place etc, so these are the different types of the documents like microsoft word, image files etc. the user needs to attach with the requested claim process for complete the submission process.
Through the CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) api’s we will connect to the external ECM, We will expect the following standardized services in order to fulfill the requirement of a content which we will do manipulation.
Every standardized CMIS ECM system, should have following minimum set of operations provide to the end user to utilize the ECM system effectively
The list of basic operation’s include 1) store the documents 2) show a list of documents 3) retrieve documents 4) documents deletion
Examples of ECM systems are
• IBM FileNet
• IBM Case Manager (really FileNet)
• Microsoft SharePoint
• EMC Documentum
IBM BPM also have inbuilt document Storage Capability.
